Meet The Board

Elena Saris

After 25 years as a Criminal Defense Attorney with the LA County Public Defender's Office Elena founded several successful online businesses by combining the skills she honed as a trial attorney - crafting compelling stories and telling them in a way that resonates with an audience.

She founded the Recreational Pickleball Players Association (RPPA) after recognizing that rec players—the heart of pickleball—lacked a central hub while tournament players had abundant resources. RPPA became Pickleball's Social Network, where players connect, find courts and events, and celebrate the friendships that define the game. She also publishes the Fit Pickler Newsletter and works with small businesses and athletes using agentic AI to help them understand the marketplace and find sponsors that align with their values.

Elena's work is guided by two core beliefs: that everyone deserves a second chance to rebuild and thrive, and that real, meaningful connection is the foundation of strong communities and successful partnerships.

Mike Alvidrez

For over 40 years, Mike has been a dedicated advocate for affordable and supportive housing, a journey that saw him rise from an entry-level project manager to the CEO of Skid Row Housing Trust. He has championed the belief that everyone, regardless of their challenges, deserves a place to call home and the opportunity to thrive.

At the Trust, he pioneered a hands-on approach, going beyond providing shelter to create a true sense of community for formerly homeless individuals, including those with mental health challenges and active addictions.

Mike's conviction that life-affirming activities can have a profound impact on well-being led him to introduce a wide range of programs to the Trust's 2,000+ residents. From yoga and mindfulness meditation to gardening workshops and even pickleball at the iconic Star Apartments, he fostered an environment of support and encouragement. These initiatives proved that with a little help, individuals who had fallen through the cracks could rediscover joy and connection.

Now retired, Mike continues to share his passion for community and recreation. As a Pasadena Pickleball Ambassador, he shares his love for the game, and his dedication to biodiversity gardening reflects his lifelong commitment to nurturing growth and connection. His work and hobbies are a testament to his unwavering belief in the power of community and the potential within every individual.
